Hi, I’m Sully.

I’m a filmmaker and audio producer from Western North Carolina. I am interested in how non-fiction media can generate interpersonal and intercultural connection, helping us better understand our own deepest struggles.

My work has been featured in the Mental Filmness Film Festival, Boone Docs Festival and the North Carolina Film Festival, where my documentary Watching won the 2025 Audience Choice Award.

My podcast, This Appalachian Life won several national awards for its coverage of Hurricane Helene and life in Appalachia.

This Appalachian Life.

I co-founded and produced the nationally award-winning podcast, This Appalachian Life, a narrative-journalism show about life in Appalachia. Each episode was reported, produced, and edited by myself and childhood best-friend, Trenton Rose, as we learned to love the region we’d spent our entire lives taking for granted.
