A little more about me…
I was interested in an array of things growing up, from hip-hop dance to classical piano performance, but the first thing I wanted to be was an engineer. I liked the idea of building something from start to finish, taking part in every step along the way. I also conceptualized being an engineer in the way that Iron Man was, which is to say- not an engineer.
It’s this creative spirit that has carried over into my professional and artistic work. I’m enamored by every part of engineering the machine (podcast, documentary, song), from conception to release. I get invested in all the little technicalities of the work, from mixing to recording to editing and color grading. When I’m not wrapped up in that world of problem solving and technical mastery, I’m thinking about the story and the concept. What moves me about it and why? What makes ____ a story worth telling or feeling worth sharing, and what form is going to achieve that most effectively?
I took up an original study in Documentary media because of a diverse interest in all the ways we can tell stories. To me, its all about the tools we can use to tell the story that meets our goals. I am a skilled tools user, from DAWs to NLEs to digital and analog cameras, but none of that matters as much as the story itself.
I am interested in stories that shift our idea of what it’s like to be a human just a little bit, because none of us will ever have it quite right. The more diverse, human, and empathetic stories we tell, the more we become all of those things in return. Empathy and emotional experience, narrative, those are as valuable to document as any statistic. They are information in their own right. My mission is to deliver that information to audiences in an authentic, transparent, and engaging way.
Below you can find a resume of sorts on the work and experience I have doing just that. There’s also some things related by proxy.
